PUPO: Pick Up, Pack Out
Keeping Our Trails Clean, One Pile at a Time.
At Hi Country Hounds, we do more than hike dogs; we take care of the land we love. That’s where the PUPO Initiative comes in. It stands for Pick Up, Pack Out, and it’s our promise to leave the trails better than we found them.
That means we’re not just picking up after our dogs; we’re picking up the rogue turds other people leave behind too. Bagged or not. Because we all know that one trailhead where someone’s been building a poop pyramid since 2021.
Why It Matters
Dog poop isn’t natural fertilizer. It’s full of bacteria and chemicals that pollute our watersheds, harm wildlife, and make trails gross for everyone.
And let’s be real: nothing ruins a switchback like a surprise step in someone else’s mess
What We Do
We always pack out what our dogs drop.
We pick up extras when we find them.
We hike with extra bags, gloves, and a solid sense of civic pride.
We’re working to spread the message through local partnerships and trailhead signs.
PUPO Goals
Remove 500+ abandoned piles of dog poop from Jefferson County trails by the end of the year.
Educate local dog owners about the impact of waste on shared public lands.
Build a community of hikers who care enough to clean up.
